The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recently introduced new regulations for updating Aadhaar cards, aiming to enhance convenience for both residents and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) with Indian addresses.
These changes, referred to as the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Amendment Regulations, 2024, bring several user-friendly modifications:
Updated Forms: UIDAI launched new forms for Aadhaar enrolment and updates, tailored for residents and NRIs. These forms are categorized based on age and address, reducing confusion and streamlining the application process.
Two Update Methods: Unlike previous rules, the new norms offer two ways to update information in the Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR). Individuals can visit an enrolment center (Aadhaar Seva Kendra) or use the official website or mobile application for seamless updates.
Form Simplification: Simplified versions of Aadhaar enrolment and update forms have been introduced, providing clarity. Form-1 for residents and NRIs in India now streamlines the process, while specific forms like Form-2 cater to NRIs with addresses outside India.
Documented Proof for Date of Birth: The requirement for documentary proof in case of declared or approximate age ensures accuracy in printing the complete date of birth on the Aadhaar card, enhancing authenticity.
Updates Every 10 Years: UIDAI introduced Form-9, emphasizing the need to update Aadhaar details every 10 years from the date of generation.
This ensures continued accuracy in the CIDR, with UIDAI encouraging individuals to update their details if not done in the past decade. These changes aim to make Aadhaar card updation more accessible and user-friendly for residents and NRIs alike, promoting accuracy and authenticity in the system.
