Ensuring the accuracy of Aadhaar details is paramount for every Indian resident, and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has provided a window for updating these details at no cost until December 14, 2023. This free service, available on the myAadhaar portal, aims to facilitate seamless and accurate updates to individual records in the Aadhaar database.
Updating Aadhaar card details serves multiple purposes, primarily mandated by UIDAI to maintain the accuracy and relevance of resident information in the database. This periodic revalidation, required every 10 years, ensures that the Aadhaar data remains up to date and reflective of the resident’s current status and demographic information.
Additionally, the government has introduced specific norms for updating the Aadhaar details of children, emphasizing the importance of maintaining accurate records as they grow older. According to these norms, residents must provide all biometrics for updates when a child reaches 15 years of age, ensuring the accuracy and currency of their Aadhaar data over time.
To avail of the free update service, residents can follow a simple step-by-step process on the official Aadhaar website. After logging in with their 12-digit Aadhaar number and registered mobile number, individuals receive a One-Time Password (OTP) for authentication. They can then navigate to the ‘Document Update’ section to verify and upload relevant documents, such as Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA), to confirm their information.
The process includes selecting the desired update category, such as Name/Gender/Date of Birth or Address, and proceeding to update the Aadhaar details accordingly. Residents must upload scanned documents and provide relevant demographic details before submitting the update request.
Importantly, the mandatory fee for updating Aadhaar details is waived until December 14, 2023, ensuring that residents can access this service free of charge during this period. Upon completion of the update request, a Service Request Number (SRN) is generated for tracking purposes, and residents receive an SMS notification once the internal quality check is complete.
While the online portal offers a convenient option for updating Aadhaar details, residents also have the option to visit a Common Services Centre (CSC) in person to initiate the update process. However, in-person visits may require payment of the requisite fee for the service, except during the waiver period ending on December 14, 2023.
